Bye Bye Wainui

Welcome back,
This term is my last at Wainui Beach School
I am excited to go to a new school but I will miss Wainui.

This term we were learning about different places cultures. Each week we had the choice between two different cultures and oval we had to make a DLO ( Digital learning object) and this is mine hope you like it  Mexico.

This term we had the kapa haka festival  we tried our best and it looked great. I was so excited when I was walking on stage because I love to sing. Most the time I am nervous when we do kapa haka but this time I was excited to shine. 

This term we had Athletics. We had sprints, long jump,ball throw and my favorite high jump. We started the day with sprints, I was don't looking forward to doing it but I tried my hardest. The people that normal win won surprise surprise. Next the year 6 girls and year 5 boys and girls had high jump I got second I was amazed and happy. Next we had ball throw I didn't do very well but I did try at least. I am not a big fan of ball throw. And last but not least long jump my friend came second I was very happy for her.

When I leave for my new school I am going to miss Wainui it has been the school I learnt all I know now. Wainui has helped me grow out of my shell and all the mistakes I made only made me stronger.  

Turanganui Kapa Haka Festival

Welcome back,
This week we had the Kapa Haka Festival on the A and P show grounds. My Kapa haka group in Wainui Beach school .  I was in the front row I was excited because I had never been in the front row before. The front row had feathers in their hair we had school dresses on and piupiu over the top of them. Piupiu are made out of flax that gets dried. Part of the piupiu is burnt to make it kinda like illusion.


As we walked onto stage my piupiu danced around my legs, heart thumping. We lined up like soldiers ready to wow the ordinances. As the guitar start and our kaea started to sing our school song we step together to make the shape of a triangle and the boys knelt down and hit the ground with their knuckles to keep the beat while the girls takahia.

At the end everyone clapped as we left the building  people came around and took the feathers out of our hair and we took off our puipui. We got pictures and congratulations from our parents and teachers. Then we hopped on the bus and went back to school until three. I felt proud of how we did and thought that I did the best I could.


 

Te- Poho-o-Rawiri

Welcome back, 

For the past couple of weeks my school and I have been doing more Kapa Haka then usual 

because we went to the Marae. We had the choice if we wanted to stay the night or not. 

I didn't want to go and I am happy I didn't because most people got terrible sleep. At first then 

we got there we were welcomed in with a powhiri by the tangata whenua. The people who 

welcomed us in was called Aunty Buba, Papa Albie and Aunty Charlotte. 

When we had finished being welcomed we had rotations around all different actives. My group was group 2 and along with group 1 we were the first to walk up kaiti hill. It was beautiful!  Next we came down and enjoyed our lunch we were aloud to play with the balls and the skipping ropes. Our next rotations was Maori games they were very fun. I leant all theses cool tricks with the stump, that had 

been sanded and painted, that was my favorite rotation.

  

 

On Friday we had weaving and the museum rotation but sadly we missed the rope games. We packed up all of or stuff and said goodbye and thank you for having us.  I had so much fun at the marae and I am so sad that I can't go again. 

Escape from Kraznir Part 2

Welcome back,
  It has been a couple of weeks since I showed you my Kraznir writing. I am now on chapter 3. In all the chapters we have to write a different part of the adventure, I am up to writing about crossing the lake so we can get back to Slinsil. These are all the characters I chose for my story. Touchfire a Wizard. Athor a tiny person. Lily Potter a kind and caring witch with no warts.

                        

Chapter 1

Three warriors have a mission to Kraznir, to steal the plans for the war that Kraznir has called upon the two lands. One of the three warriors is Lily the leader, she has an invisibility cloak and the most powerful wand in the world. Then there is Touchfire, he can make himself invisible and turn people into stone for 5 minutes. The third warrior is Arthor he is short but strong, and he always carries an axe that is the size of him. 

“Bang!” Went the dungeon door as it slammed shut. Borgin and Burkes! Mumbled Touchfire. “How are we supposed to get out and back to Slinsil”. Arthor whispered angrily. “Don’t forget we still have to look after this chest". Lily told them a bit louder than a whisper. As I sat down dust filled the air, rats scampering around the dimly lit dungeon. I looked up and saw a bloody handprint on the wall and shivered.

Hours passed by slowly and we were getting hungrier and hungrier. “Wait I have an idea”. yelled Arthor! “We can use this key I stole from the guard when he put us in  here” ! “ Why didn’t you tell us this days ago”. “I don’t know, I forgot.” Arthor said hoping for at least a good job. Lily looked inside of the chest to see if there was something to help us. Then next to the plans was a map of the whole castle. One hour later the key was still not working. Arthor are you sure that's the right key. Well he had two different keys and I just grabbed one. ARTHOR! Moaned  Touchfire well time for plan B. I will turn the bars into stone and Arthor you will hit it. “ With the axe not your head”! “Oh yes, Sorry”. 

Smash! Went the door, then rapidly fell apart. We all ran out. We ran down the corridor. “Turn Left”! Lily called, her voice echoed around the whole castle. “We have company”. Called Arthor. “Run into the wall on the right“! What! Have you gone mad”! called Arthor. “She’s mad? You're the one who spent an hour trying a key that was supposed to be for something else”. “Now!” Lily yelled as we run at the wall. We fell through and inside was the food cellar, now we will have food for the race home. Lily grabbed a bag and put fruit, bread  and cookies inside. 

After we had eaten I popped my head out, to make sure I didn't get seen I put my invisibility cloak over my head. Then we jumped out and started to run towards the secret tunnel. “We are nearly there!” shouted Arthor. Then he stops dead and looks into the room on the side to him.  His eyes lit up and he walked in and he saw were the guards slept. Arthor started to run but before he got two feet Lily grabbed his collar and pulled him back. There is a guard in there genius. Lily pulled her invisibility cloak over herself then walked in brought out her wand and pointed it at the guard and said “Stupefy” and the guard was immediately knocked out. “All clear” Lily called back to Touchfire and Arthor. They entered and immediately started jumping on the beds. I on the other hand went to see it any weapons could help us. I found fourteen little knives they will come in handy and I put them in my magic bag.  Come on you two stop messing around. We need to get out of here. After they gathered some weapons. 

We started to run  for the tunnel. We jumped in and hid, we crawled through the tunnel and found that the end was bored up. Athor can you make this way fall away. SMASH! The wooden boards fall away. And we climbed onto the steep legeg. I had not seen the sky for what felt like anaternaty. It was starting to get dark so Lily said we should sleep here tonight.

Chapter 2

Lily started to wake as the sun shone in my eyes. I woke up Athor and Touchfire and  told then we needed to get moving. I look around. “Do you two hear that”. We turned around and saw 20  Orcs running towards us there spears as sharper than knives. Me and Touchfire stepped forwards. I pointed my wand at a Orcs and yelled expelliarmus and  most of the Orc’s went flying. Touchfire put a shield of fire around as, the rest ran away with burnt body parts and some to scared. 

We eged along the narrow path being so careful not to make one wrong move. After what seemed like 5 hours (it was probably only 1 or 2 hours) we were on steep path I could see all the way to Slinsil.  Once we got to the path down the cliffs we started our long journey down the steep path.

 Athor took one step and face planted onto the rock path and started to roll down the steep path.  We chased Athor down the rocky path. OW AH! We heard Athor yell as he hit every bump. We chased after him.” Wingardium Leviosa”. Lily said. Imditly  Athor started to hover in mid air. “Coulded you have done that ages ago”. Athor Moaned. Sorry I forgot I could do mugic. Lily called to him. The rest of the way down it was pretty easy. 

Chapter 3

Arriving finally at the river, Touchfires powers glitch and then his magic was gone. What's wrong. Said Lily. I can’t use my powers around or in water. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  Screams Athor. We turn around and see a cookie in and water and him sitting next to the eg then we hear a deafening sound and then rocks started to fall. Me, Athor and Touchfire hid in a hole in the mountain.  We walked out and looked around the mass of rock. Then I saw something gleamer I run towards it and it turns out to be a small boat. Come look what I found. Called Lily back to her friends. They came running what is I found a boat ut it looks like it can only hold 4 people. One to row another to steer and the bags should wegie just about the same as one person. So me and Athor will go with the bags and we come back for you. 

As we clapered into the boat touchfire fell off the boat as he was loading the food on and the river swallowed him howl. Me and Athor were stunned.  Come on I said Athor we can feel bad later we need to get going. We pushed the boat off the shores and Athor started to row and I started to steer. It all started calm and gentle until we got to about the middle and a storm started to roll in. “Roll faster we can’t get stuck in this storm”. 

Racism

Welcome back,
These next couple of weeks my class and I are going to be working on our speeches. I have chosen to do my speech on racism because I think it is wrong and should be stopped! My best friend is a darker shade of skin than me and I treat her the same as my other friends. In my opinion, all of us are beautiful no matter what colour we are!

What is Racism?
Have you ever been told you can't do something because of the colour of your skin or because you have a weird accent?
At this point this is what I think racism is, racism is when your skin is a different colour and people use it against you as I work though my speech I will learn more about racism and what it is.

Trash

Welcome back,
For the last couple of weeks me and my reading group have been reading a book about Trash by Andy Mulligan. This is what it is about. There is a bump site in Behala ( Smoky mountains) where the three main characters live one called Raphael one called Gardo and the friend they make on the way in called rat. They live on a heap of trash and a lifetime of sifting through  rubbish one day they find something amazing. They must run from everyone trying to hunt them down.

Winn-Dixie

Welcome back,

Each term we have a different book that the teacher reads to us 

this term it was Winn-Dixie. Each week we had activities to do

 so that we understand that was going on.

Opal- The girl that finds and adopts Winn- Dixie 

Winn-Dixie- The dog that can smile and show all his teeth.

Preacher- Opal's dad and the person how talks in church  

Sweet Pie- A 5 year old girl that loves dogs but her mom won't let her have one.

Otis- A man that works at a pet shop he loves to sing and play the guitar.

Franny Block- A librarian and Opal frist friend.

Glorya- A lovely lady that lives in a creepy house and some people call her a witch.

Almader- A girl that brother drowned and she was so sad.

Stevie and Dunlap- Two boy that are twins.

As the book was coming to a end I was sad because I was really starting to get in to it . I enjoyed reading it and would like to watch the movie.

Welcome back,
Today my school and I had Cross Country. I am not a great runner but I tried my best and I stopped and helped  my friend. We were there for about 2 hours, because it took so long I played card games with my friends. We have school house colours, I am in yellow. There are also red, green and blue . All the houses have different chant this ours.

Science Fair

Welcome back,
This term we have a lot of things going on, we have cross country, science fair and speeches are coming up soon two. I did the science fair along with my close friend Izzy we did it about which mint would make the biggest explosion, so we called our project Fizzy Pop. We used three different mints. The one the lost that most was the Mentos the mint that lost the second most was the Curiously Strong We did experiment the and these were the results.

Ninja Maths (BFC)

 Each week we have priorities. One of my priorities is basic facts (BF). Basic facts is math. We have 3 different columns. This is just one of the thousands of sheets we have, we have a different one each week.

•  Mental strategies is the easiest.
•  Timestables is normally division or times tables. 
•  Key skills is the hardest in my opinion.        

Decimals

Welcome back,
For the last couple of weeks, L3 Maths have been learning about decimals. Decimals and fractions can be used together to answer  questions . When you are working with decimals it is easier if you put the numbers into columns, always line up the decimal point. In this question start with adding  3 tenths +6 tenths =9 tenths, so you put nine at the bottom and add the decimal point in front of the nine. Once done, move on to adding 4+2=6. Add  the six, then the decimal point and the nine after the decimal point. So the answer is 6.9.
For example:    4.3
                    +  2.6
                        6.9

Actors

Welcome back to my blog,
Last term me and my drama group performed a play about rubbish. In my drama group is Poppy ( 5 year old role model), Rosie (principal), Tillie (Mean girl), Aliva (Mean girl), Naia (A bird), Millie (The Mum) and Silke our drama teacher.

Our drama group was asked to do this play in term 1 after we did a play about fishing for the future, we rehearsed every friday in term two. We did the play on the last week of school for term 2 and NAILED IT! Although we were all nervous we did great. Thank you to my amazing drama group and a special thanks to Silke our drama teacher.

Term 2

Welcome back,

Our topic that have been learning about is Retro tech (Old thing), for example an old hair dryer was big and bulky while the one that we have now is easy and small.

As I walked into school and found 10 boxes with different retro tech items. We had to find out what the items where without searching them up, there were ten different groups and 10 different items. My team found out that it was a pants seamer. We were wrong, we through it was a hair dryer.

This term we also had the gym school comp and the rhythmic gym the same day. We placed 2 second and went back for another rhythmic comp.

My Maps

Welcome back to my blog,

Yesterday I learnt how to make my own my map on google maps easily.

  First go on your drive and press the new button, that big button in the left corner. It will come up with the normal and more comin lot then press more at the bottom of all the different options. Then press Google my maps, it will take you to a empty map.

 Name your map what you want. The place you want to mark type in where you want to go. It will

 have a marker press that marker and it will say add

 to map and it will add that place to the side of your 

screen and you can name and add pictures and

 information about that place.

So that is how you make a easy my map.

My teacher had a bag with two purple socks and two blue socks in it and she called up people to pull out two socks and see what we would get, we calculated it in our book these are the socks we picked out.

EL4 Strand Measurement

This late two weeks my math group have been learning about measurement. Our teacher timed us to see how fast we could run a 100 meters and 1 kilometer.

Rhythmical

Welcome back to my blog,

Two days ago me and these girls performed  a dance/gym routine. We practised through lunch and we even got to miss school so that we could practised in the gym club.

 It was my first time doing rhythmical and most of the other girls had done it before. We came 1th over all the primary schools. That mean that we got to go again the next night and do it again at 5-7 at night. We wore and big pink bow and a rainbow tutu with shot black shorts and a black singlet. Not what I would choose to wear again.We can 2 over all the primary in the finals.
 Here we are as we just finished.

The Snowmatron

Hi welcome back,
In writing L3 we have be working our way up to writing a explanation about rech tech.

 So we starting by watching a video called Wallace and Gromit the snowmanotron. We drew a sketch on the snowmanotron and named each part. Next we started planning how we where going to write it.

 We started writing the introduction on what it does and who can use it. We used a piece of writing done by older kids so we would have an idea on how to start our introduction. Next we will be working on our middle contents. Explain about how to work it and how start it and get the finished product.

The snowmanotron

Retro tech

Welcome back,

Last week on the 4th of may my class went to the museum and we learnt about retro tech.
 I learnt how to use a quill along with loads of old phones.

 We learnt how to use an old camera while we got our picture taken then we wrote our name in ink with a fever pen ( also known as a quill).

  We got to touch the old phone and things like that. I learnt a lot about retro tech at the museum
                                  like how to use the old movies in little picture.

  

Blogging like a Boss

This lesson on writing my group and I have been learning how to write a quality blog post.

 The circle are for what I am working at.

 1 is not that good of a blog post and 2 is ok but 3 is the best. 

One new thing that I learnt about writing a quality blog post is I can preview to see what it will look like when you are done and publish. To get a quality blog post first make sure it is clear so that the reader can read it  and juicy so that the reader wants to read it. Make sure you have a anuff content. When you edit make sure you have punctuation. To get it to standards you must have all the blog requirements. To make your blog more exciting fix your layout add a picture or something like that.        

Scar Head

Hello me again,
This last 2 of weeks me and my group have be writing and learning about 6 sencests writing we go to this workshop 2 a week.
This is how I did it...

Once upon a time, there was a kid called Harry Potter he had a scare on his head. Harry Potter lived with his dreadful aunt and uncle and his spoilt cousin. Clean the dishes, wash the clothes was all that Harry Potter could do thanks to his aunt and uncle. But he was very talented he could speak to snakes  and cast any spell. But one day that all changed Harry you got mail it said the he had been accepted into hogwarts. All his problems were solved.

Back at school

Hello,
It's me again most of the year 6's went to camp last week. I stay back at school with the year 5's and 2 more year 6's and this is what we did (The year 6's was in room 4 and the year 5's where in room 1)

Stars in the sky

Hi me again,
My class and I had a museum trip to learn about the stars and walk around looking at the monuments in and around Gisborne.

 There were 10 monuments all together. There were 5 people in each group and there were 10 groups. The class got split in half. Half of the class went on the walk around to look at the monuments and the other half of the class was in the museum. The half of the class that I was in was in the museum learning about how to use the stars to steer the wakas to new island, we went  into a big ball and watch the video on how in the olden days they yost the stars to steer the wakas it was hard to get but in the end I got it.


 Before the trip we had to write a report about one monument my group had the star of Canada. Than it was time to swoop and we went on the walk, the walk was a hour long it was tiring but I did it and I am proud. We went back to school at 1 o'clock lunch time.

 I had fun at the museum today and can't wait to go again.
     

Swimming angelfish 2019

I'm back!

My school had swimming sports on Tuesday 26 February.  My friends and I had so much fun swimming, talking and playing. This is me and my friend Miriam. Miriam is the girl in the swimming cap and I am the one next to her. I didn't win a placing but Miriam got into the semifinals. It was a long day having to watch and do some of the races. I felt that I had done better than last year. My stroke was beautiful and I did two lengths of the pool not just one. At the end of all the races we got free play in the pool for 15 minutes. When we got back to school we had missed most of our lunch and I was starving. In the end it was a good day, so I hope you have a good day too.

2019 hamanatua Stream

Are we there yet ? I moaned. "Yes" said my friend. "We will be there in 2 minutes".
2 minutes later ...

"Ok everybody get in a group of 3 or 4 and make your way up to the top of the stream".

 When we got to the top it looked like a field of grass and weeds but if you looked closer you could see some of the native trees.
My class and I walked around stomping on all of the weeds and grass to flatten down all of the grass so that we could see all of the native trees because we needed to pull all of the weed out of the ground and with the mulch which is a dirt that keeps the roots warm and moist. It took about 3 and a half hours to do. It wasn't an easy job but it looked great in the end. See you next time.
